Radioaktive Elemente zerfallen st\u00e4ndig im Erdkern und -mantel. Bei diesem Prozess entsteht W\u00e4rme, die an die Erdoberfl\u00e4che abgestrahlt wird. Bei diesem Prozess trifft die W\u00e4rme auf nat\u00fcrlich vorkommende geothermische Reservoire, die oft hei\u00dfes Wasser oder Dampf enthalten. Um an diese Ressourcen zu gelangen, bohren geothermische Kraftwerke in unterirdische geothermische Reservoirs. Die hydrothermalen Ressourcen werden \u00fcber Rohrleitungen an die Oberfl\u00e4che geleitet, wo sie zum Antrieb einer Turbine verwendet werden, die mit einem Generator verbunden ist. Sie nutzen unterirdische Reservoirs mit extrem hei\u00dfem Wasser, das unter hohem Druck steht. Der Druck dr\u00fcckt das Wasser an die Oberfl\u00e4che, wo es in einem Flash-Tank gesammelt und zu Dampf gekocht wird, der eine Turbine antreibt. Der Dampf aus dieser Sekund\u00e4rfl\u00fcssigkeit wird zum Antrieb einer Turbine verwendet. Das geothermische Hei\u00dfwasser trifft nie direkt auf die Sekund\u00e4rfl\u00fcssigkeit oder die Turbine. Bin\u00e4rkreislaufanlagen sind die neueste Art von geothermischen Anlagen.
