How Communities Can Achieve an Electrified Building Sector<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Adopting new building codes can be a useful tool for communities working toward building electrification. Every three years, the State of California updates its Building Standards Code<\/a>. Local jurisdictions can choose to adopt the state\u2019s standards or implement \u201creach\u201d codes \u2014 building codes that reach beyond state standards and encourage or require all-electric readiness for new buildings. Reach codes also help cities and towns achieve their environmental goals.<\/p>

CalGreen<\/a> is the first statewide green building code to be adopted in the nation. It addresses the five divisions of building construction:<\/p>

  1. Planning and design<\/li>
  2. Energy efficiency<\/li>
  3. Water efficiency and conservation<\/li>
  4. Material conservation and resource efficiency<\/li>
  5. Environmental quality<\/li><\/ol>
