SUMMARY:Electrify Efficiently: Heat Pump Zoning – Challenges and Solutions (Part 5 of 5)
DESCRIPTION:Zone control is a popular strategy for addressing different climate zones in a home. Many customers and contractors newer to heat pumps are drawn to multi-split systems that utilize a single outdoor unit to run multiple air handlers\, but there can be unintended comfort sacrifices if not done carefully. In this webinar we will focus on various approaches to zone control for efficient and comfortable outcomes. We will compare traditional zoning with zone control\, multi-split systems\, multiple one-to-one systems\, and combinations of these solutions.

SUMMARY:Community Open House + Presidio Speaker Series: The Future Is Shared
DESCRIPTION:Climate commitments are easy to make. Turning them into meaningful action is much harder. The Future Is Shared will explore what corporate climate responsibility looks like in practice\, and what it takes to move from ambitious goals to decisions\, investments\, and programs that deliver real impact. \nThrough Presidio’s Community Open House\, students\, alumni\, prospective students\, practitioners\, and neighbors will join a conversation led by Jim Giles\, Vice President and Editor-at-Large at Trellis Group. Jim’s work examines why some companies develop genuinely impactful climate programs while others struggle to translate commitments into action. Together\, we’ll consider how responsibility for climate action is shared across companies and the larger systems they influence\, how we evaluate whether climate strategies are working\, and what more meaningful corporate action might require.

SUMMARY:I-REN C&S Training: Prepare for Permitting: Natural Refrigerant Heat Pumps
DESCRIPTION:I-REN is hosting a learning session in partnership with ProspectSV to share more about what is driving adoption of natural refrigerant heat pumps for HVAC and DHW uses\, outline how current codes apply to this technology\, and how to navigate that landscape as it develops. The HVAC industry is in the midst of a technology transition. Electrification and the phasedown of synthetic (HFC) refrigerants are driving natural refrigerant heat pumps\, using refrigerants such as CO₂ and R-290 (propane)\, further into use for commercial HVAC and domestic hot water (DHW) applications\, and California’s climate goals are accelerating that shift. As this technology becomes more common\, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) – building officials\, fire marshals\, and other local permitting authorities responsible for code compliance – will need a clear framework for evaluating these systems. \nThe session will cover the following:\n● Current landscape for natural refrigerants in HVAC\n● Benefits and limitations of natural refrigerant systems\n● Relevant codes and code application\n● Safety considerations\n● What to ask for at permit review\n● Resources and where to go for support

SUMMARY:Resiliency with Grid-tied Solar & Battery
DESCRIPTION:This course is designed for forward-thinking home and business owners\, builders\, and architects who want to take control of their energy future and build truly resilient buildings. Renewable energy systems with solar and battery at home have two major benefits: (1) store the solar generation for use during high-priced times of day; and (2) keeping power to your home when the grid is down. The utility cost savings from load shifting benefit gets most of the attention\, but the resiliency in case of blackouts could be just as valuable. This course evaluates solar and battery systems with resiliency as the main focus and economics as a key consideration. \nYou’ll discover how to correctly size batteries (where most systems fail)\, prioritize critical loads\, and ensure your solar actually works during an outage. We will use case studies of homes and businesses keeping the power on in case of blackouts to understand the benefits through real-world examples. Homes can keep life-saving medical equipment running in case of a grid outage. Businesses can continue to serve their communities in case of a natural disaster. We’ll also cover emerging opportunities like virtual power plants\, smart panels\, and vehicle-to-home integration—turning your building into a high-performance energy asset\, not just a consumer.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Heating and Cooling Load Calculations for Electrification Projects
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, Judy Rachel will explain what a heating and cooling load calculation is and how it provides essential information for the successful implementation of electrification projects. Beyond providing the essential information for properly sizing a residence’s HVAC system\, the heating and cooling load calculation informs electrification project design and planning in significant ways. In addition\, this presentation will explore the business case for this important planning step within the construction process. \nAccurately calculating the heating and cooling loads for a building provides the information necessary to choose appropriately sized space conditioning equipment. When pursuing electrification using right sized\, typically\, lower capacity HVAC equipment you will frequently negate the need for panel upgrades which provides a significant advantage in electrification projects. This contributes significantly to reducing project costs\, while saving on energy consumption and ongoing costs to comfortably condition a given home.
