Serving our communities and customers, like Teresa.
We’re celebrating 15 years of MCE by recognizing our community partners who have made our success possible. Kicking off our “15 Faces for 15 Years” series is 12th District Assembly Member Damon Connolly, a founding MCE Board Member & former board chair.
When founding MCE Chairman Charles McGlashan passed away in 2011, Damon stepped into the board chair role during a moment of loss and uncertainty. He not only helped steer MCE through this transition but positioned the organization for the critical growth and impact that followed.
From day one, Damon brought unwavering commitment to MCE’s mission.
Damon’s personal resilience became MCE’s backbone during tough times, proving that transformative work requires steadfast resolve to approach and thrive amidst challenges. Thank you, Assemblymember Connolly, for your leadership!
“From day one as a founding board member, I immersed myself in MCE’s mission. With all transformative work, you’ve got to fight and see it through. I’m inspired by MCE continuing to lead while serving the community — for people and the planet.”

Today we spotlight Dawn Weisz, our founding and current CEO, as we celebrate impactful leaders in MCE’s 15-year journey!
A visionary pioneer, Dawn built MCE from the ground up as California’s first community choice energy provider, rallying grassroots support and leading the charge for communities’ rights to choose cleaner energy.
Dawn’s determination to create a cleaner, more equitable energy future guides all that we do at MCE. She continues to champion that vision as our CEO, leading the charge for a more sustainable future.
“In just 15 years, the public green energy choice movement has swept across the state, creating 25 community choice programs serving one-third of all California energy customers,” said Dawn. “Improving air quality, reducing emissions, and helping customers save on their bills makes the hard work invested worth every bit of effort, and inspires me to deepen our impact every day.”

The community choice model is a commitment to locally led efforts for a sustainable future. From individual lifestyle adjustments to large-scale industrial changes, our communities are building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient environment that works for everyone.
In 2010, local advocates launched MCE as California’s first Community Choice Aggregation electricity provider to give their communities a true, renewable alternative that was not-for-profit and governed at the local level.
Today, MCE serves over 1.8 million people with clean energy service and cutting-edge energy programs across 38 communities. With the help of local leadership, champion businesses, and individuals like you, MCE is creating a brighter future for ourselves, the ones we love, and all living things on this planet. Discover what we’ve accomplished together.
“Since launching, we’ve committed over $3.8 billion to the development of new regional renewables and our investment is paying dividends, not for shareholders, but for our communities and the planet.”
