City of Martinez Goes 100% Renewable

City of Martinez Goes 100% Renewable

The City of Martinez is making big strides toward a more sustainable future by enrolling key municipal facilities — including City Hall, the Police Department, and the Senior Center — in MCE’s Deep Green 100% renewable electricity service. This move supports the City’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) and reinforces its leadership in local climate and sustainability initiatives.

Leading the Charge Toward Clean Energy

“Martinez was one of the first cities in Contra Costa County to adopt a Climate Action Plan (CAP). One of the primary goals of our CAP is to shift to renewable energy sources, so opting up the city’s electricity accounts to MCE’s Deep Green service was an easy decision. By running electricity on 100% renewable energy sources such as wind and solar, we’re reducing our emissions, conserving resources, and demonstrating our commitment to sustainable policies and our CAP goals.”

Martinez’s sustainability efforts don’t stop at clean energy. Both City Hall and the Police Department are certified Green Businesses, and the city actively promotes sustainability by providing resources on waste reduction, energy and water conservation, and cost-saving tips for residents.

“As a city, we aim to lead by example,” said Mayor Zorn. “We recently created a Sustainability Subcommittee of the City Council to further enhance our sustainability initiatives and efforts. We believe the city’s sustainability initiatives enhance our organization and foster pride among employees and the local community.”

Why Deep Green?

By choosing MCE’s Deep Green service, the City of Martinez ensures that 100% of its electricity comes from renewable sources such as solar and wind. The benefits of Deep Green include:

  • Zero emissions: Deep Green customers eliminate electricity-related greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Local impact: Participation supports local clean energy projects and green jobs.
  • Simple upgrade: Opting up takes just a few minutes but delivers lasting environmental benefits.
  • Community leadership: Choosing Deep Green sends a strong message about your organization’s values.

A Message to Other Organizations

Mayor Zorn encourages other cities, businesses, and organizations to follow Martinez’s lead.

“Your decision can have an immense impact. By opting up to Deep Green, you will not just be investing in your organization's future, but also in the future of your community and the planet. Your actions can help inspire others to prioritize sustainability.”

Martinez is proud to be a certified Green Business and an MCE Deep Green Champion—a model for what’s possible when cities take bold steps toward climate solutions.
