Deep Green Champions: National Sourdough Bread Day

The Deep Green Champion blog series celebrates businesses, nonprofits, and public agencies in our service area who have made a public commitment to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions with 100% renewable energy.

April 1st is National Sourdough Bread Day. The San Francisco Bay Area is known as the home of some of the world’s best sourdough bread. Celebrate by grabbing sourdough from one of these Deep Green Champions.

Rising Loafer Cafe

The Rising Loafer Cafe in Lafayette is a recognized climate leader and local advocate for climate action. The cafe sources food from organic farmers around the Bay Area and grows their own herbs and raspberries. The cafe runs on recyclable and reusable materials. They even donate old cooking grease to be converted into fuel.

“The environment is my primary concern. I do everything I can to live a frugal life with the most respect for the resources around me and my community. MCE came to my life and gave me the opportunity to once and for all move to use sustainable energy at my business. Now, I can enjoy the reality that I am not contributing to climate change as much as I was just a month ago. Thank you MCE. ” ⎯Maria Gastelumendi, General Manager

Good Earth Natural Foods

Good Earth Natural Foods is an independent local grocer, with locations in Fairfax and Mill Valley, that advocates for a more sustainable food system. A 40,000-square-foot solar array at their Fairfax location supplies 35% of Good Earth’s electricity. The remainder of their electricity is sourced through MCE’s Deep Green 100% renewable energy service. By choosing renewable energy, Good Earth has reduced their greenhouse gas emissions by 500,000 pounds of CO2 each year which is equivalent to the emissions of 26 households. Good Earth also implements green building solutions like energy-efficient insulation and natural lighting. Grab some sourdough through their curbside pickup or delivery!
