After a two-year hiatus, The Richmond North & East Neighborhood Association Picnic made a triumphant return on September 9th, 2023. A cherished Richmond tradition, this year’s event brought together families, local organizations, resources, and community members to celebrate the vibrant spirit of Richmond.

As a sponsor, MCE’s Partnership Development Team engaged with the community through activities and information meant to inspire clean energy conversation.

A Day of Fun and Learning

There were tons of fun activities available to attendees of the event at Burg Park. At one “stop”, MCE helped kids make bracelets while chatting about energy efficiency and protecting the environment.

Backpacks Full of Possibilities

MCE gave away more than seventy-five MCE branded backpacks to Richmond’s young residents, packed with essential school supplies. These backpacks are not only a practical resource for families addressing academic needs and saving families money, but also a powerful tool for educating youth about clean energy and community involvement.

Elbie Seibert, MCE Community Development Fellow, highlighted the significance of youth engagement in MCE’s mission.

"Youth engagement has been a vital aspect of MCE's work this year because of the importance of teaching youth about clean energy, climate activism, and energy efficiency. From coloring to books to Youth Action Toolkits, there are a variety of ways to engage youth in a creative way that can also expand what they learn to their families and community. Events where we get to hand out backpacks to kids and have conversations with their parents are a great way to educate multiple generations not only about MCE, but also about renewable energy and climate action more broadly."
