MCE and the City of Martinez are celebrating good energy with the unveiling of a new mural! On Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 10 a.m., the wall of the Club des garçons et filles de Martinez, facing City Hall, will feature an energy-inspired mural, sponsored by MCE. This mural acts as a symbol of the deep connection between MCE and the Martinez community.
At the heart of this project is a local artist collective, Illuminaries. This group includes local street artists known for their vibrant, joyful murals that inspire youth and uplift public spaces. For the Illuminaries, this project is personal. “Being from Martinez, it means so much to help shape the public appearance of our town and create a welcoming, fun environment for our kids,” Illuminaries artist, Tim Hon shared.
The Boys & Girls Club of Martinez, a cornerstone of the community, is the perfect canvas for this collaboration. For decades, the Club has provided a safe, supportive space for local youth to learn, grow, and thrive. The mural will not only enhance the space’s beauty but also serve as a daily reminder of the Club’s mission to empower young people to succeed.
Why This Mural Matters
This mural is more than a beautiful work of art — it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and collaboration. It represents the shared commitment of MCE, the City of Martinez, and the Boys & Girls Club to promote climate action, equity, and the power of art to bring people together.
MCE’s Commitment to Martinez
MCE has proudly served Martinez since 2018, providing clean energy solutions and working with the City to create an equitable energy future for the community. Through this partnership, MCE has invested over $2.3 million in programs that directly benefit Martinez residents and businesses. These investments include more than $485,000 in bill savings through programs like MCE Cares Credit, over $450,000 to electric vehicle adoption through charging stations and instant rebates, and more than $1.2 million in energy efficiency upgrades that help homes and businesses reduce their energy consumption and costs.
Together, MCE and Martinez are creating a more sustainable community while putting money back into the pockets of residents.
One notable project was the energy-efficient upgrades at a 32-unit multifamily property in partnership with Eden Housing and the Association for Energy Affordability. This mural is another step in MCE’s ongoing commitment to fostering growth, wellness, and sustainability in Martinez.
