“MCE is deeply committed to equity and supporting the impactful work in the communities we serve,” said John Gioia, MCE Board Director, and Contra Costa County Supervisor. “The next generation of changemakers are our future, and Sustainable Contra Costa’s environmental youth engagement efforts highlight the power of advocacy in making lasting and meaningful change.”
Last year, Sustainable Contra Costa led the way on youth engagement and outreach efforts as they relate to MCE programming. Specifically, Sustainable Contra Costa’s youth leadership branch, Sustainable Leadership in Action, encouraged businesses and residents to opt up to MCE’s Deep Green 100% renewable service, promoted MCE’s Because Of Youth social media campaign, and hosted a series of green career pathway conversations with local youth leaders.
"MCE has been a remarkable partner with Sustainable Contra Costa over the years. We are grateful for their support and the opportunity to collaborate with them on building a clean-energy future for Contra Costa," said Tina Neuhausel, President and Co-founder of Sustainable Contra Costa. "MCE staff have helped improve SCOCO’s ability to achieve our mission by being actively engaged in our programs.”
Sustainable Contra Costa is a community of citizens, educators, innovators, and organizations designing and building pathways to ecologically sustainable, economically vibrant, and socially just communities for all. Since its inception in 2007, Sustainable Contra Costa has grown into one of the broadest-reaching nonprofits in Contra Costa, providing tools and resources that help people take action. They have been an instrumental partner in helping connect community members to MCE’s services and programs since 2018.
MCE established this annual award in June 2011 to commemorate and memorialize the legacy of environmental leadership by former founding MCE Chair, Charles F. McGlashan.
