SAN RAFAEL and CONCORD, Calif. — MCE is taking the next step in its ongoing fight against climate change by proactively pursuing the kinds of clean energy projects and partners that can make meaningful local impacts.

MCE’s 2023 Open Season request for offers is seeking projects that produce renewable energy or carbon-free power, or increase energy storage and resource adequacy. These projects are intended to help lower greenhouse gas emissions while creating clean energy jobs and supporting underserved communities.

Resource adequacy refers to projects that will provide additional energy to the grid in cases of extremely high demand. MCE is seeking clean resource adequacy to support California’s grid reliability goals while reducing the harmful effects of fossil fuel consumption.

“MCE’s annual Open Season looks for both energy resources and community benefits,” said Vicken Kasarjian, MCE COO. “Since 2021, we have given priority to energy projects that provide additional value like support for environmental justice initiatives, workforce training and educational programs, and hiring of businesses owned by disabled veterans or located in disadvantaged communities.”

To date, MCE has contracted with project developers for seven projects that have directly committed almost $500,000 in funding for community benefit projects that will support underserved populations in MCE’s service area and across California.

The resources requested in MCE’s 2023 Open Season will:

  • Support grid reliability,
  • Increase adoption of clean energy and
  • Build energy equity across California.

Offers will be accepted between March 20 and April 14, 2023. Offers will be evaluated and shortlisted on a rolling basis and instructions and documents are available at mceCleanEnergy.org/energy-procurement. Please direct any questions regarding the process to RFO@mceCleanEnergy.org.
