SAN RAFAEL and CONCORD, Calif. — Local clean energy provider, MCE, has distributed over $1 million in income-qualified electric vehicle rebates since December 2019. These rebates help Bay Area drivers take advantage of the benefits of clean transportation and lower annual costs associated with electric vehicle ownership.
“The upfront cost of owning an EV can be a barrier for many, but the long-term ownership costs are much lower than a gas-powered vehicle, saving drivers an average of $1,000 a year,” said Dawn Weisz, MCE CEO. “Our programs are prioritizing low-income drivers to help those who would benefit most from lower costs, making clean transportation accessible to everyone.”
MCE’s income-qualified rebate program:
- Distributed more than 300 rebates to income-qualified drivers;
- Offers rebates of $3,500 per vehicle that complement other local, state, and federal rebate programs for a total rebate between $7,500 and $17,500; and
- Focuses on an underserved population that has a greater proportional financial burden associated with transportation costs.
MCE will be closing the current rebate program as of March 1, 2023, which will be the final day to submit applications. A new program will debut in early summer 2023, making it even easier for drivers to access clean transportation by lowering the immediate purchase costs of a new EV instead of sending drivers a rebate check in the mail after it’s purchased. Details of this new program will be available on MCE’s website.
EV Rebates are just one of the many ways MCE is helping customers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. To learn more about MCE’s programs and community impact, view the 2022 Impact Report.
