Transforming Communities: Launching the Charged by Public Power Program

Transforming Communities: Launching the Charged by Public Power Program

MCE is seeking community feedback to help shape clean transportation solutions across its service area through the Charged by Public Power program.

The Charged by Public Power program works at the community level to understand and address barriers to transportation needs in historically underserved communities. The program provides recommendations to expand clean mobility solutions (such as EV chargers, carshares, and bike shares) in these priority communities:

  • Concord
  • Fairfield
  • Napa
  • Pittsburg
  • Richmond
  • San Pablo
  • San Rafael
  • Unincorporated Contra Costa County
  • Vallejo

Participate in Community Engagement

MCE is gathering feedback from the community with virtual and in-person focus groups. The focus groups give community members an opportunity to share their thoughts on clean transportation solutions. By providing feedback, you’re helping promote benefits including equity and inclusivity and improved accessibility in your community.

Join a Focus Group

After gathering community feedback, selected strategies will be implemented in partnership with MCE’s Community Electric Transportation Council, made up of representatives from local governments, transit authorities, and community-based partners in MCE’s service area.

The planning and community engagement phase this year will engage with communities through surveys and focus groups, and analyze and report on the findings to refine implementation plans. In 2025, MCE will install EV chargers and EV stations at identified sites during the commissioning phase. In 2026, the deployment and operations phase will ensure efficient operations of the chargers and stations, coordinate access to other clean mobility solutions identified during outreach, and provide ongoing support to the communities where projects were installed.

Shape Our Clean Transportation Future

If you have ideas for clean transportation solutions and want to participate in shaping the future of your community, visit MCE’s Charged by Public Power page to find an upcoming focus group in your area.

MCE thanks the Department of Energy (DOE) for funding this program. DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and Vehicle Technologies Office funded the Charged by Public Power program because it aligns with national energy goals and offers a blueprint capable of expanding clean transportation solutions across the state.

MCE is committed to community driven initiatives that promote sustainable and equitable energy solutions. Through collaborative efforts such as the Charged by Public Power program, we are laying the groundwork for a more sustainable future.
